Performance Chemicals

ICR provides a variety of performance chemicals that are used primarily in the thermoset resin industry, and basic resins for industrial coatings, reinforced plastics, and printing inks. This family of products consists of dibasic acids, polyols, monomers and related specialty additives.


Many of these same products are also consumed in the production of synthetic lubricants, water treatment, paper treating chemicals and surfactants.

  • Benzoic Acid - Used to make a large number of chemicals. An example is Benzoyl Chloride, C6H5C(O)Cl, obtained by treatment of benzoic with thionyl chloride, phosgene or one of the chlorides of phosphorus.
  • Bisphenol A (BPA) - An organic compound with two phenol functional groups. It is a dysfunctional building block of several important plastics and plastic additives.
  • Carnauba Wax - Wax of the leaves of the palm, Copernicia Prunifera, a plant native to and grown only in the northeastern Brazilian states of Piauí, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Norte. It is known as "queen of waxes" and usually comes in the form of hard yellow-brown flakes.
  • Fatty Alcohols - Aliphatic alcohols derived from natural fats and oils, originating in plants, but also synthesized in animals and algae.
  • Fumaric Acid (Tech/FCC) - Used in the manufacture of polyester resins and polyhydric alcohols and as a mordant for dyes.
  • Hexamine - Used in rubber and textile adhesives, paints and lacquers, in the photographic industry, as a corrosion inhibitor, and as a protein modifier. It is also used in chemical analysis, as an anti-caking agent in the production of urea and in the production of deodorants and hair fixers, among many other uses.
  • Isophthalic Acid - These aromatic dicarboxylic acids are used as precursors to polymers and other compounds of commercial significance. Mixed with terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid is used in the production of resins for drink bottles. The high-performance polymer polybenzimidazole is produced from isophthalic acid
